Your Early Holiday Video-Game Gift Guide

Joy to Joystiq, the holiday gift guide has come! Here is the early list to give you a head’s up on a lot things that the kids will love this Christmas, but be sure to check back for our Official List in a few weeks.

+ Gamespot features a console specific list and is the most comprehensive gaming gift guide we’ve found. Their top game picks include RE4 (GC), Civilization IV (PC), Forza Motorsport (Xbox), God of War (PS2), Advance Wars (DS), Burnout Legends (PSP), and Nintendogs (DS).

+ Barnes & Noble contains their top picks on games from all platforms. We’re not quite sure about their logic since it’s a hodge podge of random games.

+ CNET has the goods broken down by affordable, midrange, and expensive prices. Toping the list are the GameCube, GBA, Micro, Xbox, DS, PS2, and ironically, the N-Gage. Looks like they just picked everything.

+ Gamestop’s guide is console specific citing top selling games. See also the now sister company EB Games guide as well.

My wishlist is a bit more convoluted than these, but they do a great job relating the most appealing trends and fashion in the age of electronic gaming.

King’s Quest IX In Production

On November 29th, Vivendi Universal Games (VUG) announced that Phoenix Online Studios, the group producing the sequel of their King’s Quest franchise, would be allowed to continue their endeavors, granting them a fan-license. The negotiations required that the name of the sequel be changed from “King’s Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining” to merely “The Silver Lining”. The VUG press release is as follows: “After extensive evaluation, Vivendi Universal Games is pleased to announce that the fan developed trilogy project ‘The Silver Lining’ (previously known as King’s Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining), based on characters from Sierra Entertainment’s ‘Kings Quest’ series, has been given approval to continue development. We look forward to seeing the first of its three upcoming chapters, ‘Shadows’, completed soon.” This is great news for the KQ series, as now the halted fan-developed project of the ninth sequel has been officially revived and should debut in the main-stream market sometime in 2006.

Newsflash: Second Xbox Shipment December 18th

A few people have been able to find Xbox 360s after launch date, either on eBay or in less searched stores, but now there is news of the second official shipment of 360s. The date to watch and wait for is December 18, 2005. I would suggest checking with your local BestBuy immediately as to whether or not they will recieve a shipment, and if they will, you should even perhaps camp out just to be ensured an Xbox 360 for the Christmas holidays!
